Okay.

Got an email from a Clinton supporter who provided me with thirteen links proving their point.

Obama is not a progressive, Fran. I wish you would tell people that.

Done.

And while I'm in the giving vein...

  3. Did the thirteen links demonstrate in any way that Clinton is a progressive?

  4. I'm not surprised in the least. Any politician positioning themselves to the left of Francisco Franco has been anathema on the American political stage for decades now. The last candidate for the presidency to describe himself as a liberal (before it became 'the L word') was Jack Kennedy. Carter was a moderate, Clinton called himself a centrist but was really center-right.

    As a comparison the Canadian Conservative government is as far right as we've got - but they're still to the left of the Democraps.

    Sad. But true.

  5. BG and BAC - thanks for the bipartisan support - or is it quasi-partisan, or hemi-demi-semi-partisan - a party within a party? Anyhow, I went to the caucus, and gave my speech, and left before they tallied the votes. There were a lot of serious-ass Obama supporters there with their supporters, and I was by myself. I honestly felt I shouldn't go when there are people that are so truly committed and have done the trench-work.

    Although (seriously) knowing that my peeps (that's you!) had my back made it so much easier for me. Thanks!

  8. On it's face it is abundantly clear that it is wrong to to state that neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton do not fit into the most commonly used definition of the word "progressive",

    Progressive: Avoring or promoting progress;
    favoring or promoting reform (often by government action)
    (of taxes) adjusted so that the rate increases as the amount of income increases
    liberal: a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties

    But of course there are those that deny the actual definition of the word, and in it's place attempt to honor only themselves. here are definitions of the phrase "progressive" that would best fit those that would make this intentional error;

    Progressive: An adjective used to describe a certain style of trance; techno, house or self-delusionial gradiosity. audiosentials.com

    Progressive: A dance that significantly travels over the dance floor, generally in the direction of the line of dance. Examples are Waltz, Foxtrot, Polka, Samba and the false-air-of-superiority tango. dancing-latin.com

    But in the end it would seem clear that the word best used to describe those that would express to the world that only they are correct, and that what they say on a subject is more important that the feelings and desires of the general public:

    Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite — a select group of people who think that they have outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight. wikipedia
