Don't Sugarcoat It Award for February 15

Yesterday was quite a day of love and support for Shakespeare's Sister. We're all Spartacus. And I hope that each and every Spartacus out there wants to grow old with me. We're in this thing called the blogosphere for the long haul, people.

That said, we have to give a don't sugarcoat it award today to a blog that said she was *not* Spartacus. You see, Mildred doesn't just pick up her chains and stand up to the imperial centurion named Donohue, she pretty much runs over and pulls the motherfucker off his horse and feeds his balls to him with her bare hands. Oh, and she mocks the Pope.

It's special.

  1. My, that was some rant.

    Enlightening, though.

Gracious sakes; that was well done!
as Churchill once said of De Gaulle after giving him a dressing down, to which De Gaulle merely replied "Ah, oui; is that all?"

I haven't seen *Spartacus* since it came out in theaters, but, now that you mention it, I think I remember something like that scene; good old Commie like Howard Fast--have you read his memoirs? And wasn't that Jean Simmons? Wah Raaow! Make a poor old man feel like a tomcat again, if I may be so openly old-fashioned.

    Ewick likes your place

Nobody gets to be Catholic without having a good Catholic mother. My good Catholic mother was named Mildred, or as she's referred to around our house, Grammom Millie.

What's interesting to me in all of this is what Mr. Donahue thinks about Catholic ethnicity. The religion is one thing, but how we are raised is another and I come from one of those families that has long been unapologetically liberal to the point that when the term Irish Catholic Democrat is used we found it to be absolutely redundant.

Which is not to say that there aren't Republican Catholics, who my mother, Mildred, called dirty (expletive) traitors to our kind. If she were still with us I can assure you that Mr. Donahue would have received a phone call from her by now and the very second he set down the receiver he would swear he just got a grass wedgie.

  5. Good pick BG. That was one of the most enjoyable posts I've read in a long time, with a good mix of solid facts and arguments on one hand with humor and snark on the other. I hope you emailed this link to Mike Finnigan too - a lot of people would enjoy reading this.
