Holy moments?

I was in a restaurant this past weekend with people I loved. It has to rank as one of the nicest moments of my life. To those who were there, thank you.

Salon tonight. Surrounded by post-Christmas clutter (and the kids who produced same) so no video blog today.

BTW I haven't said anything about the Rick Warren thing yet. Citizens who feel this is worse than a smack in the face to the Left and the Gay community are justified. [Update: As usual Susie Bright doesn't sugarcoat it and is not necessarily safe for work.] I'm with the guy in the Frank Rich oped: it's time for Warren to “recant his previous statements about gays and lesbians, and start acting like a Christian.”

I don't feel bad for us Lefties, though, having heard enough wide-brush "all religion is equally bad" blogger crap in the past four years to know Obama couldn't please some of them unless he dispensed with prayer altogether (ain't gonna happen).

I'm sad that Rick f-ing Warren is the issue, rather than respect for all humanity.

Isn't it interesting how we're not talking about Reverend Wright anymore?

Anyone waiting for Mr. Warren to recant had better not be holding their breath. We can pray that he will see the Light, but to me, a lot of what he does is about the benjamins, not the Gospels.

He has an agenda, and he has a constituency that falls in line with his beliefs. He says what they expect - and want - to hear.

This makes me very sad. It also says something about Mr. Obama that I'm not too sure I like very much.

  2. If Warren would try to moderate his rhetoric, his true believers might come to hate/fear the gays a little less. Rick Warren, needs an education in tolerance and respect for civil rights to take back to the faithful and then educate then. In the mean time I'm outing myself right and left since I live in Utah (oh how I hate the Mormons and their ignorance). I'm not terribly attached to my sexual identity since sex is no longer an issue for me. But I can use my sexual outing to make a political statement. So I'm getting my gay on.

  3. Indeed, 'all religion is equally bad' as a statement is as bereft of value as its counterpart, 'all religion is equally good'...Anti-relativistic generalities make poor aphorisms.

Warren is Falwell with a hipster beard and spray-on tan - a paternalistic, proud know-nothing living in a bubble of solipsism that his easily beguiled flock foots the bill for, while he seeks temporal power for self-aggrandizement.

And Obama pandering to him (and the accompanying demographics he provides) using the ruse of 'inclusion' reveals a glimpse of opportunism behind the hopeful face, IMO.

    If you'll allow me,

A commenter at Fran's place (the other one) inspired me to do this:

Feel free to join in the fun.

Why won't Rick Warren "recant his previous statements about gays and lesbians, and start acting like a Christian?” There's no money in it. And I'm not kidding.
