Another reason to stay away from the computer...

I'm thinking about those of you who are dealing with or bracing for an ice storm. January is just wierd.

Charles D. Stimson
is hereby nominated for A-hole of the Year, 2007. Along with the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal, who entered the A-hole Hall of Fame at least as far back as 2004.

I can tell you from my own experience, that getting two lawyers to agree on anything is hard work. Cully Stimson (sounds like a cartoon character, really) did an admirable job of pissing off almost the entire legal profession, by indicating that corporate clients of lawyers representing Guantanamo Bay prisoners should fire their lawyers because they represent terrorists.

Let's see, no more habeas corpus, screw speedy trials, heh, and now no right to decent representation.

Stimson has even done what no one else has ever done: he succeeded in (I'm not sure whether to gasp or gag) getting Blue Gal to agree with...deep breath...the Attorney General of the United States:

Good lawyers representing the detainees is the best way to ensure that justice is done in these cases.

That's a total boilerplate answer, but I notice the Pentagon has disavowed Stimson's comments, too. Stimson needs a lesson in public relations, let alone constitutional law and legal ethics. He, or at least his voicebox, should be removed to a secure undisclosed location, like maybe, one of the La-Z-Boys at Gitmo.

Gee, I hate to disagree with you Blue, but Dubya has the asshole of year thing cinched up pretty tight for as long as he's around. Looking forward to the day he no longer is.

Today, we've got rain and mid-50s. Last weekend, we had sun and near 70, and I washed and waxed my little truck while wearing shorts. Which was not a pretty sight, considering the lack of a tan...

Nope, no global warming here in Jersey.

We do all understand by now that the word "justice" should never be associated with this junta in any way, shape, or form.

Good catch on the I miss Fafblog, spot!, Blue.

According to my electric bill, last month was, on average, 8 degrees warmer than last year. Ah yes, I remember when I was new to the Midwest and went out to buy my first down coat since my childsize one from my Colorado days. That puppy hasn't been out once this year.

  6. Port Townsend, WA, got another dusting of snow yesterday, and the temperature is a nice 32 degrees now, with the sun shining on the bright whiteness.

It's pretty, but also pretty concerning - we've had four winter storms in six weeks this year. Two involved snow, the other two had winds going considerably over the legal speed limit.

This is the real reason behind the famous Shakespeare quote, "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" (Henry VI, part 2 | Act 4, Scene 2). Dick the Butcher knew that lawyers are the guardians of liberty and no dictatorship can succeed without destroying, subverting or neutralizing them.
