The blogger Betty Cracker makes a very very clear point that overusing the sexism charge, especially when NOT warranted, cheapens the term.
What we are watching is John McCain's attempt to manipulate women...in the most ham-handed way I've ever seen in my adult life.
PS I don't know which I dislike more, linking Huffpo or agreeing with Mark Halperin.
But hey, if a douche like Halperin gets it and says it, we may be getting somewhere. An anthem for the evening, ma hunnies...
Ooh tell me please
Why it takes so long
To realize when there's something wrong...
"The only difference between a pit bull and a soccer mom is lipstick."
ReplyDelete~ Sarah Palin
So it would seem that by Republican logic Sarah Palin thinks soccer moms are dogs. Just sayin.
as mccain's own manager said, it's about presonality not issues.
ReplyDelete(cause they haven't a leg to stand on when it comes to the issues!)
and both mccain and cheney have used thatpig/lipstick phrase.
ReplyDeletehell i've used it many times.
Thanks for the laughs. It is almost ridiculous, though so sad.
ReplyDeleteI just want to be reassure on November 5th (the 4th would be better) that America is not, in fact, as stupid as many of us think. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteasha - its "hockey mom"... I think had she said "soccer" those moms woulda kicked her ass.
ReplyDeleteOf course this is not sexist. This is what bullies do though. The news report by ABC of her actually firing the librarian, only to have to rehire her because of town outrage is bully activity. The librarian had to finally leave after two years and says she'd rather not recount that part of her life.... ptsd, an often result of bullying. The same with he story of the judge that had to repremand her for her disparaging the trooper in her whisper campaign against him, even within her family. Bully behavior.
This is what bullies do, as you pointed out previously. Nothing they say has to be true at all. It just has to be repeated. The less logical the better to gaslight the target with. All that "wtf?" exhausts the target emotionally and mentally. They like that.
The media have for 8 years gone along with this, repeating, repeating, and now, they just cannot break the cycle. With 9/11 tomorrow, a sure trigger point for ptsd, we'll see a media even less likely to call them on it.
I liked this take on it. Obama should repeat the lipstick on a pig... over and over... about every issue there is.

Thanks for all your good stuff, BlueGal :-)
Here's something I've been thinking about but haven't had the courage to say "in public" until now.
ReplyDeleteGod forbid, if McCain should win...and if there's even the *perception* that women's anger at perceived sexism helped him (not the reality, just the perception).
Then I think we can wave goodbye to the chance of a serious woman progressive candidate for at least another 25 years.
I think Democratic men will feel that women have proved the vagina is more important to them than the vote.
I'm not saying I *want* this to happen...I'm just terribly afraid that it will.
