The Nation Magazine is issuing a Platinum Visa card?

Look, I don't begrudge any liberal institution the right to fund themselves however they can, nor do I think any of us progressives can afford NOT to put whatever money we are able to spend towards causes we support.

But I still think The Nation Magazine Platinum Visa Card, which is apparently a real thing, is a hilarious oxymoron.

And it made my photoshop fingers, which always take things to their logical conclusion, itch.

The Karl Marx Mastercard:

The Che Guevara Visa:

And my personal favorite, the Emma Goldman mugshot Discover Card ("The Card with Payback tm")

Memo to The Nation, kudos or just remarkable good timing for waiting until credit card reform took place.

  1. When we hang the capitalists, they'll sell us the rope?

When we screw up the economy by extending far too much credit...

  2. I'd like an Emma with a $25 billion credit line, I understand I only have to date and sign one piece of paper?

  3. Perhaps now more people will, um, "Discover" The Nation Magazine?

  10. I too don't judge anyone who attains certain funding (as long as it's ethical) but I just received an extremely unorthodox, not to mention unsettling, email from the Nation peddling a Visa Card. Somethings telling me this is the beginning of the end of the last cry of progressivism in creditable journalism.

Now that the Nation is in bed with one of the very unregulated institutions the magazine is suppose to speak against, from here on out this magazine should still be read but have it's contents direction and bias scrutinized now more than ever.

I don't understand your cynicism. I see no conflict in The Nation selecting one of the smaller banks, not associated with the excesses of the financial crisis, to issue credit cards to progressive minded people. While I have nothing against Marxists, I don't think the majority of Nation subscribers or supporters are far-left socialists. Such thinking is just as exclusionary as the right-wing extremists.
