"Look, she has gone home."

And with those five words about his departed grandmother, Obama defines himself as undeniably Christian. (Even James Dobson can't contradict Obama right then).

And with those five words, Obama came "home" himself.

That sentence was, in the final hour, the most transformative of the entire campaign. No one can doubt Obama's ingrained faith after watching that.

The manner and cadence of the statement was entirely out of the black church tradition, too. He gets an amen from everybody on that.

That stupid Rev. Wright ad aired a gobzillion times a night this past weekend, will not be remembered tomorrow morning. The tears and prayer of a faithful grandson will be.

Let me preface this by saying, I agree w/ you 100%. This should not even be an argument anymore. It is more than obvious that he is a deeply Christian man.

But I have been mulling it over now, and maybe I will have to blog about this myself later...

    So what?

So what if he were Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Pagan, or Pastafarian? Who should care if he worships Ceiling Cat or insists that the Invisible Pink Unicorn is really Pink?

I wish these things weren't issues. Religion has no place in our politics. At the end of election day, it is the politics I care about. Where does he stand on the shit that affects my life?

I am probably preaching to the choir here, but I really needed to get that off of my chest.

  2. The day an atheist is elected to office will be the day we know that religion and spirituality have returned to being private matters for personal reflection, and that our electorate will be truly free.

Used to be people didn't think we could elect a black man, either.

    si se puede.

  4. I see what you're saying, ouyangdan. But the fact that Obama's record as a Christian was so denigrated in an attempt to defeat him, even during the primaries, shows much more about his opponents and the nation than it does about him.

Of course it doesn't "matter" that he's a Christian (or not). Except that it does to a lot of voters. That's a shame, but what is more shameful is that there was a concerted attempt to paint him something that he was not.

He showed all of us in that speech what he is. That's all.

  6. Well, the Kool-Aid Klub still think (know! ) he's a Muslim, and that Poor Exxon Mobil wants to lower gas prices, but the A-rabs won't let them.

    I believe it's a form of autolobotomy.

  9. When I heard him say that, I cried for the first time in this campaign. Then I cried again last night as the victory sunk in.
