To do? Dismantle the Reagan Myth

Any lefty blogger wondering "what to do" now that the election is over?

Around the same time I posted "Anti-gay is just so, Reagan," on my video in support of Alternative Invocation, I found out about Will Bunch's upcoming book, Tear Down This Myth: How the Reagan Legacy has Distorted Our Politics and Haunts our Future.

Reagan's "success" as President is, like all Hollywood stories, made of smoke and mirrors and invented fictions. The real legacy of Reagan is union-busting, corporate welfare, Iran-Contra, and the complete travesty of Reaganomics:

I hope the message of Will Bunch's book gets wide release. Our job as bloggers is not only to define issues and advocate for what's right. We've got an opportunity to tell the truth about American history, so we don't get fooled again.

  1. I've always said Reagan's legacy consists of making greed acceptable and demonizing the poor. He normalized homelessness.

  4. Don't forget Bonzo's years as governor of California. That was no nice time either.

  5. Tear Down St. Ronny's Bullshit Brigade. I keep yammering about Reagonomics and Milton Freedman, but economics just isn't terribly sexy I guess. We had no homeless "problem" prior to Reagan. Unions were healthy and worked to protect not only the workers but the citizens who relied on workers who were not so fatigued from working 12 hour shifts that they couldn't say awake in the Air Traffic Patrol towers to watch those jets about to collide.

I agree! We should end the Reagan Myth!

First, Reagan does not have horns. All pictures of him which are defaced should have their defacements erased, and the vandals who did it should face stiff fines.

Second, because Reagan won the Cold War, with the help of Pope John Paul II and margaret Thatcher, his image should have laurels placed upon his brow and the images of the of Yhatcher and the Pope should appear with him, so adornes.

Third, Reagan's Image should be PROMINANTLY added to Mount Rushmore.

I think that the Unions have waged a horrible unconscionable horrible smear campaign against Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan was a fine Democrat and personal friend of President Truman untilRegan decided not to support a frivilous Secondary Boycott.

This is an example of how a normally laudable Democrat, when following the dictates of his Conscience, was hounded out of the party. The political landscape is littered by the corpses of similar men of virtue, such as Congressman John Dowdy, Governor John Conolly, Strom Thurmond, George Wallace, Zell Miller, Phil Gramm, and now Joe Lieberman.

We must adhere to Speaker Sam Rayburn's Dictum that the Democratic Party should always have a place for Conservatives and Men of Conscience.

Needless to say, I agree that we should dispell the myth that ROnald Reagan was some sort of devil. We should repair the deamage by reinstating him, albeit posthumously, to the democratic Party. The Communists were willing to reinstate Alexander Solzhenitsen's Russian Citizenship. Can we, the Democrats, do anything less?

  9. Let's not forget what Reagan did to social programs and student loans. He, along with a Democratic Congress, delayed my finishing college. Ronald Reagan was a simple jock who attended college on an athletic scholarship. A pox on both your houses.

Reagan may have been an Athlete, but that was extracurricular. Sports, for Reagan, was a sideshow. Reagan went to College to become a Degreed Economist, which showed when he was President. As President, Reagan had to make some sacrifics for the good of the country.

I too have had to sacrifice for the good of my country when Bill Clinton bombed my Church'es Monasteries in Bosnia. If you, Doeg, want to make a villan out of Reagan over your deferred graduation, just remember that my Religious Freedom was sacrificed by Clinton.

Unfortunately, that space on Mt Rushmore is already occupied by Dr. Rep. Ron Paul, who paid for it by deploying unspent campaign funds illegally misappropriated from donors in the Foreign Special Interests sector.

Many people don't realize that Ronald Reagan had a nightclub act in Vegas telling dirty jokes, after he failed as a B movie actor. By all accounts, he was as funny as a chapped asshole.

He then became a corporate shill for General Electric, traveling the country, spewing corporate propaganda. This is where he acquired his legendary "communication skills".

He also raped actress Selene Walters - Google it if you don't believe me.

    I googled it!

There is indeed an allegation that Ronald Reagan raped Selene Walters. What is absent from this story is that there were no other date rape complaints against Reagan, and that Harry Truman DID NOT MOVE TO EXPELL Reagan from the Party.

A typical failed Acress publicity ploy of that era (1951) was to claim that some big stud, like Reagan, raped her in order to get attention. Selene's career was fizzling out.

    Good Try, Mr. 9:24 PM
