Win a lifetime supply of #yarn? Define, please.
Really, if you're having a contest to "win a lifetime supply of yarn" you have to define your terms.
What kind of yarn?
What's a lifetime?
How much yarn is enough?
Who am I kidding?
I would enter this contest no matter what. If it's acrylic yarn, I would share it with my charity knitter friends, and all of us would make beautiful things for cancer patients and the newly widowed and also babies and African AIDS orphans, because That Is What We Do. And no matter how "much" yarn it is, I am obviously a member of the SABLE club, (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy) so no problemo on that front, either.
It turns out the contest winner will get one $480.00 gift certificate to one of the big online yarn stores each year for 20 years.
I can live with that. :D

Brief (and late) knitting post
Sorry to have missed Salon tonight, folks.
So I'm swatching (sample knitting to make sure the yarn is the right fit for a project) for the s.o. I'm musing and knitting and holding the sample out at arms length, etc...He's sitting next to me....
Me (meditatively) "I just want to make sure your sweater doesn't look too, you know, "Emo."
Him "WOW. YOU READ MY MIND."

And it was then I sang to him for the fortieth time..."Pardon me, I didn't knit that for you."

Celtic? Knot.

[Salon tonight. Video blog on hiatus until my cast is off, just before Thanksgiving, they tell me. - BG]
Many thanks to the alert reader who sent me the "how to tie rope panties" video. Kudos to anyone who can take rope and panties and knots and make something so decidedly unsexy.
It's a great video for making a Celtic knot though. I've often thought you could totally fake an Alice Starmore sweater with a little I-cord and a darning needle, if you knew how to tie the thing right.

She's back.
Well, one died of pills and the bottle, poor talented thing, and the other raised lots of liberal quid, but alas, remains Barbara Streisand to this day.
We're here, [most of]* the yarn and the laptop are unpacked. Yes, it's blue gal now living in a primarily blue state. At least a midwestern one. That makes me happy and the children are thrilled with the house, the yard, the playroom, etc. Mommy gets her own playroom too, shown here:

*Oh shush about do I think I have enough yarn already. There's only a couple grocery bags left and it's mostly purple, so shush.

For the knitter who blogs, and vice versa.

The hand-knit laptop privacy-slash-headwarmer, um, garment? H/t Akabini, who tells us she only has 118 different kinds of yarn in her stash, poor girl.
And by the way, if you have a Boyfriend With Moods who occasionally does not feel social, I'm sorry, you cannot knit this for him. It totally counts for the curse.

Porn on the internet? Yep, I just go to flickr and "search everyone's photos" for
"yarn."
And spank yourself if you looked at this photo and said, "Noro!!!"
(that's the yarn company for non-knitgeeks)
I love the title of the photo, too. Ha.
And if you think I'm crazy, remember that there are some smarter knitters out there who always keep "emergency sock yarn" handy.

Knitting Dr. Seuss?

Will you? Will you? In trinity stitch?
Will you Will you? Just to bitch?
I will not knit in trinity stitch. (not "fake" trinity stitch, either)
I will not knit it just to bitch.
Will you? Will you? It's on sale!
Will you Will you? The Holy Grail!
I will not knit it if on sale.
I will not knit your Holy Grail.
I will not knit the Star Wars cap.
I will not knit such silly crap.
Will you knit to please your lover?
Will you knit his Ipod cover?
Will you knit something Doctor Who?
And will you post it if you do?
It's not like we're asking for Star Trek.
Oh please, Blue Gal, knit an evil Dalek?
I will not knit to please my lover.
I will not knit his Ipod cover.
I will not knit something Doctor Who.
So I shall not post it when I do.
Don't you dare say "knit Star Trek."
And I will not knit an evil Dalek.
Even though I have the yarn.
PS. Even if I did not believe in the curse of the boyfriend sweater, I will never knit a sweater with a hand-knit cord channel along the shoulder that supports and contains the Ipod wires to run up his arm to his ears, along with several other knit pockets for his Blackberry and other penis extensions, either. So fuck you, Knitter's Magazine.
This post is dedicated to my friends at Madrona. So sorry I had to miss it this year. xxx
