No time for politics?

This anti-sufferage image from 1910, entitled "No Time for Politics", is by Charles Gibson, famous for his "Gibson Girls." Naturally, this lovely domestic scene is played out in my house all the time, except that as I pull one of my daughters (four and almost six) onto my lap these days, we are likely reviewing the Rules of Procedure of the Credentials Committee of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Just saying.

  1. Being that one of your daughters should have her picture next to the dictionary definition of "precocious", this is hardly surprising.

From a former gifted child who was also years ahead of his time, I tip my hat.

I know very little about your circumstances, but I'm always grateful to see something on this blog or the others you work on, given all that free time you have away from raising those little ones and preparing for a move. . . you go, girl.

  3. Of course, what Gibson did NOT know is that his model was secretly Mother Jones and those are Wobbly strike posters she and her adorable little daughter are putting together.

Heh, LOVELY analogies in the author's and others comments.

BG, what a SERVICE you do to raise two to the rules you peruse.

They will know where to find the shit, as they grow into fending for themselves.

They will be WELL prepared for life's challenges.

    That's some nice work, ma'am.

    I'm awed. As usual.

    Heh, Bowie. Suffragette City. *G*

If you look closely, they're reading Katha Pollit's column in The Nation, I think...
