Namely Senators Nelson of Florida, Casey of Pennsylvania, and Webb of Virginia, for voting to increase this President's power on the FISA bill this weekend.
The netroots supported you guys big time and you're making us cynical way too early.
It just goes to show you that they are more concerned with keeping their Senate seats and their constituents placated that they will overlook what is right.
I hate to sound like a neo-con here, but maybe if term limits were in place our elected representatives would be free to vote their conscience rather than their constituency. Or maybe not. Just a thought.
I really do hope that we in the left wing blogsophere will hold these people to task but clearly what needs to change are the attitudes of people in Red State America.
I appreciate the work you do, Blue Gal, and I'm almost always in agreement with you. But due to recent circumstances, I have realized that the forces we fight against are so deeply ingrained within the societal fabric of Red State America that we have miles to go before we sleep.
This doesn't discourage me so much as it inspires me to keep fighting. But those of us Blue Folks in Red States have an uphill battle to fight and I wonder seriously if things are going to change for the better before they get a hell of a lot worse.
Firstly, thanks for bein' the most On Top Of It Gal in the friggin' Universe!
Secondly, Congrats on the C&L gig, that's so cool!
Thirdly, Kevin: I agree with much you have to say, but with the caveat that our perception of politics and society re: "red states" and "blue states" is largely a fiction. There are plenty of progressives in so-called "red states" and lots of conservatives in "blue states." The fiction and the labeling serves the insidious purpose of getting us to other each other.
DCup's thoughtful blog about quittin' bitchin' and taking action inspired me to move on some positive projects, most recently a bridge-building project which I wrote about over at my place.
I'm inviting all you clear thinking folks to join me in that endeavor.
About some of the turn-coat Dems ... I'm not surprised by Bill Nelson (FL) or Casey (PA) as they are barely Dems much of the time. The only reason either of them won is because the people running against them were certified wackos!
I hope to make it to the salon tonight ... I have a big postit note on my computer screen to remind me. These senior moments are coming far too frequently these days.
Woot!
ReplyDeleteNice rundown - man, Casey, and Webb?
Congratulations on the C&L stint! You'll rock the house!
And that's the sexiest striptease I've seen in a while. Gonzales first, then Cheney, then George W....
