How can a video by GoogleLabs make me cry? This one did.
I made it all the way to the aquarium part and then lost it. It's BS that the designers at Google "learned" that autism spectrum people think in pictures. They live that, duh, they designed this software. It was more, "welcome to the tribe."
I work with engineers and architects. They spend a lot of time and money learning to draw what those kids did in an hour. Very cool software. Very gifted kids. Isn't it amazing what we can learn from people if we take the time to figure out how to communicate with them?
As a father with an 8 yr old son with autism, and a special ed teacher who has taught many kids on the spectrum, I can say that definitely these kids/individuals think in pictures. I think this program is great! I want my son to try it! He's already drawing detailed flip books and storys he's made up with amazing illustrations!
I wanna live in a house that has walls made of water held in place by force fields! That's freakin' awesome!
ReplyDeleteYeah, made me well up a bit.
The aquarium room broke me too. Thank you for this. I will pass it on to many.
ReplyDeleteVery cool. Anything that can project imagination into tangible realms for kids has my support.
