This is not a post about Sarah Palin's new grandbaby.

A great many young people in our country become pregnant or worse, contract a sexually transmitted disease, every day. I have nothing to say in judgment about the young Palin and her unfortunate situation.

I have a great deal to say, however, about the Republican Party and its POLICIES regarding sex education, reproductive choice, HIV prevention, and let's not forget their complete hypocrisy regarding homosexuality and civil rights. Sarah Palin's stands on these ISSUES are contrary to feminism, the health of our young people, and everyday common sense.

Is it a surprise to anyone that Sarah Palin is an advocate of abstinence-only programs, and opposed sex education in Alaska's schools?

Again, this is not about Sarah Palin's daughter.

It is about a government that has failed to make responsible decisions regarding public health policy, and the completely irresponsible positions the Republican Party takes on those issues.

Sarah Palin should be ashamed, because she is a Republican.

And I still think there's lots of evidence that Twig is Bristol's child, and that Bristol's mother, a candidate for national office, is lying about the term of this current pregnancy as well as the details of the previous one. Lying. Lying. Lying.

  2. Surely you're not suggesting that a GOP pol would tell us less than the truth?

(and I agree with your suspicion ! I'd love to see a time-line).

    Happy Labor Day!

  3. already, cnn is treating palin's revelation as fact: the daughter is pregnant because the mother says so, and that's that.

blue, i thank god for you.

  4. Great post.

I am so not a moralist. A person could screw 17 monkeys and I would not flinch. Lying, cheating, murder, war, torture, disenfranchisement... that shit makes me crazy.

What bugs me about this is exactly what you said - this whole abstinence only thing.

I am not popular in my church circles when this type of topic comes up and I pipe in with my usual verve and say things like "People have been fucking for thousands of years, can we address how to deal with the impact? Getting them to stop does not seem like the way to go."

I do not want to see kids having sex indiscriminately, but I do want to know that if they do, it is done with knowledge.

That whole pesky knowledge thing, it so sucks for some people.

My big excitement today was getting a comment on my blog from a person from Palin's church in Wasilla. Someone from that town - more than one person actually, has been all over my site meter since early yesterday.

I guess I am not a good Catholic in this person's eyes. Oh well! Probably in a lot of peoples' eyes when I say things like I have in this comment!

  5. Don't worry, Fran; lotsa people said Jesus wasn't a good Jew.

It's not so much that I think Palin ought to be ashamed of being a Republican; I think we all ought to be ashamed that there ARE Republicans. Thanks for directing the discussion in the correct direction with such passion and precision.

    Republicans delenda est!

  6. It is supreme irony, though, that a woman who espouses an attitude towards birth control that might as well be called "wishful thinking" has a child who apparently disregarded the whole concept altogether.

    Like I'm surprised.

  7. Hi Fran...I posted on the baby/grand baby thing...reluctantly. But...I tend to agree with you. Certainly there is more here than meets the eye.

I'm afraid other skeletons in the Palin closet shall soon show themselves.

But to defuse the controversy is so simple: Release the medical records dealing with Sarah's pregnancy and birth of Trig.

Bingo. No more rumors. We can then move on.

If she refuses to release the records, well...generally, when it comes to Republicans, a refusal such as that is a pretty good indication that they are lying.

    Peace!

    Jacob

Someone on Kos posted a photo that showed Sarah Palin looking obviously pregnant this year. who the hell knows? One thing is for sure: no way Bristol's boyfriend could go to into the town pharmacy to buy some condoms without everyone knowing. I feel sorry for Palin's daughter. Even with mommy in the governor's mansion (if they have one in Alaska), she now has far fewer options.

You're right - Republican policies are reckless regarding public health.

The Palins could easily lay this to rest. That would make this all go away for their daughter, too.

  10. and now we learn that bristol has been living with an aunt, and attending school there, 45 mi from her home town and former school. was this to hide the first pregnancy or the second? the mind reels. and a final question: did bristol conceive the first child while she had mono? i know, out of school, bored, not much else to do but fuck.
