We hate it when our friends become successful

I must be getting better at this because I say what I wanted to say in under nine minutes. Watch the volume at the beginning because I blast some Morrissey.

My apologies for reading from, and linking to, my own blog. It was just easier.

And another shout out to my Algonquin Round Table: The Aristocrats,
Tengrain, Morse, Driftglass, Darkblack, Cap'n Dyke, etc. etc. etc. You're all linked on the blogroll. Love on ya.

  1. 'Being more important than the message'...ah, the pundit's dream, and the deathblow for a blogger's aspirations toward meaningful local and global change.

But just think of it...Cushy comfy cubicle, rolodex set on 'maximum access', only the best table at fine dining establishments worldwide, a Cadillac-sized space next to the elevator...And all you have to do, a trifle really, is strangle your own credibility in its crib.

Certainly, no organised political party speaks for me...In the words of Keith Moon, "They can't afford me, dear boy."
And I suspect the same might be said for the vast majority of your blogroll, BG.

  2. Excellent song choice. ;-)

Your point that this is a commentary on the failure of the Democrats to be advocates for change (or, if you prefer, for a defense of things we want to remain the same, i.e. Constitutionally-guranteed liberties) is well taken. I absolutely agree.

We are all Mark Halperin, now.

I'm still waiting for a response from DavidFuckingBroder as to whether he'll be a guest blogger at Republic of Sestakastan.

  5. Brilliant dear BG. I would like to cross post this and have this video on my blog if you don't mind.

This whole failure of the Democrats has been weighing heavy on my mind and you expressed a lot of what I have not been able to. Thank you.

We did a lot of the heavy lifting and now impeachment is off the table- that really is the cut to the chase point is, isn't it?

And as for Morse's remark above... there's always Jeff Gannon, isn't there?

Peace people- hope to be back at th salon after a couple of missed weeks. Time is elusive of late, but I need to be with my own kind for an hour today.

  6. For more than 200 years, the Democratic Party has represented the interests of working families, fighting for equal opportunities and justice for all Americans.

Today, Democrats continue that fight with a firm commitment to the values that we all share as Americans: a secure nation that leads in the world, strong economic growth and new jobs, affordable health care for all Americans, and a better education for our children.

i'll celebrate my love for you with a pint a beer and a new tattoo

Kick the Fascist Habit..... Vote The Democratic Ticket!

No apologies required. I do it all the time because I'm too lazy to even cut and paste. And I'm sure as hell not gonna re-write 'em.

  8. The Democrats have failed in a number of ways, but mostly in their leadership (or lack of). I think a lot of it has to do with their inability to come to consensus within their ranks, while the Republicans are off spinning the story they want reported. Democrats have traditionally been lousy at spin.

I also think in her attempt to be a different kind of leader, Speaker Pelosi has let us down. Congress is not ready for her "be the change you want to see" approach -- and by using it, she has allowed the Republicans to run all over us. Had she walked into the chamber as a "take charge" mom, bent on setting the "boys" straight, we might be a lot further along today on things that matter to many of us -- like ending the war, dealing with a real heathcare crisis, global warming, and yes, impeachment of an out of control administration.

I fear that as long as we have a winner takes all political system, and media owned by six corporations, nothing is ever going to change.

    BG -

You have no idea how angry I am with Nancy Pelosi, and I don't think anyone was more excited to see her pick up the gavel. I saw it as such vindication, not just for women, but for the SF Bay Area. My sadness with her performance could fill volumes.

As for the rest, I just don't think that you need to worry about being co-opted by the old school money and power routine. Speaking truth to power is its own reward.

    Regards,

    Tengrain

Great song. Very nice statement. For me, the Democratic Party is irrelevant. In the past, I have always voted Dem. This time, they will have to earn my vote with good candidates. I'm voting progressive, period. If your candidate isn't what I consider progressive, you don't get my vote. No more good cop/bad cop kabuki for me. No more least worst.

Kos? I think he's an ambitious dog who caught the front end of the train. He's irrelevant to me too. I do check out Daily Kos from time to time just to see what the folks who hunger after recognition from the establishment have to say, to keep tabs a little bit on the state of 'officially approved' quasi-progressive political dialogue. It's like, I would check out Free Republic and News Max if I thought I could stomach them. I'm just not a strong enough person to face that much mealy mouthed power worship, so to guage the enemy, so to speak, I check out DK.

I was just thinking this week about how only a year ago, it was quite the faux pas to discuss Peak Oil on Daily Kos, as I recall. It was one of those tin foil, CT red flags to the raging bulls of Daily Kos, to the troll hunting wolf packs there. Now oil companies discuss Peak Oil.

The fact that Markos is at Newsweek now show me two things: one, that his income is notching steadily upwards; and two, that he is increasingly irrelevant and doesn't even know it. But I'm thinking that a lot of politicos will be face to face with their irrelevance after 2008, one way or another.

As for me, I'm rarely relevant, so it's not far for me to fall!
